Office Cleaning Checklist
Free template ยท Updated 26 October 2026
An office cleaning checklist helps a cleaning team deliver the same standard on every visit, whoever is on the job. It also gives you a clear record to discuss with the client when expectations change.
Every client is different. Agree the scope first, such as which tasks are done each visit and which are weekly, then turn this template into one checklist per site.
Work areas
- Empty waste and recycling bins and replace the liners
- Wipe clear desk surfaces, without moving papers or personal items unless the client asks
- Dust shelves, window sills and other surfaces
- Wipe high-touch points: door handles, light switches, lift buttons and stair rails
Kitchen and break room
- Clean and sanitise counters, tables and the sink
- Wipe the outside of appliances and clean inside the microwave
- Load or empty the dishwasher, if that's part of the agreed scope
- Empty the bins and wipe the lids
- Restock soap, paper towels and dishwashing supplies
Washrooms
- Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks and taps
- Clean mirrors and wipe partitions and door handles
- Restock toilet paper, soap and hand towels
- Check sanitary bins and report any that are full, if a specialist service empties them
- Mop the floor
Floors
- Vacuum carpets and rugs
- Sweep and mop hard floors, using wet floor signs
- Clean or shake out the entrance mats
Before you leave
- Turn off lights as the client instructs
- Check that windows are closed
- Lock up and set the alarm as the client instructs
- Let the client or your supervisor know about low supplies or anything that needs attention
Tips for using this checklist
One checklist per site
Each office has its own layout, access rules and agreed tasks. A separate checklist for each site avoids confusion when cleaners cover different clients.
Use colour-coded cloths
Keep separate cloths for washrooms, kitchens and general surfaces, so germs aren't carried between areas.
Agree what 'done' means
Clients judge the result, not the effort. Walk through the checklist with each new client so you both agree what every task includes.
Every business is different, so adapt this checklist to yours and to your local requirements.
