Coffee Shop Daily Cleaning Checklist

Free template · Updated 26 October 2026

Customers notice a sticky table or a dirty milk jug long before they notice a new menu. A daily cleaning checklist spreads the work across the day, so the shop stays clean during service and the close doesn't become a marathon.

The tasks are grouped by when they happen. Set your own timings for the during-the-day checks, such as every hour or after each rush, based on how busy you are.

During the day

  • Wipe tables and chairs after customers leave
  • Wipe the counter and the condiment station regularly
  • Purge and wipe the steam wand after every use
  • Clean up spills straight away and put out a wet floor sign if needed
  • Check, clean and restock the toilets at set times

Coffee station, end of day

  • Backflush the group heads, following the machine maker's instructions
  • Soak and scrub the portafilters and baskets
  • Clean the grinder chute and wipe the grinder
  • Empty and wash the knock box and drip tray
  • Wash milk jugs and wipe the outside of the machine

Food areas

  • Clean and sanitise prep surfaces and chopping boards
  • Clean the display cabinet glass and shelves
  • Wipe fridge handles and door seals
  • Clean the toaster, sandwich press and microwave

Front of house and floors

  • Clean fingerprints off windows and glass doors
  • Wipe menus, high chairs and card readers
  • Dust shelves, window sills and decorations
  • Sweep and mop the floors, including under tables
  • Empty the waste and recycling bins and wipe the lids

Weekly or as needed

  • Descale the coffee machine and kettle, following the maker's instructions
  • Clean behind and under equipment you can safely move
  • Empty, clean and sanitise the fridges
  • Clean the ice machine, following the maker's instructions
  • Wash the bins and tidy the bin area

Tips for using this checklist

Clean as you go

Small cleaning jobs during quiet moments save a long clean at the end of the day. Give whoever is on the floor a short list for the gaps between customers.

Separate the weekly jobs

Deep-cleaning tasks are easy to forget because they don't happen every day. Give them a set day of the week and put them on their own list.

Keep cloths for different jobs apart

Use different cloths, or different colours, for toilets, food areas and tables, so dirt isn't carried from one to another.

Every business is different, so adapt this checklist to yours and to your local requirements.
